Values

Good morning/ afternoon, this blog post is about our school values and what we can/do everyday. Our main value that we show is Manaakitanga (Respect), our class at the start of the year all of us had to write down what we can show for each value and these are some of them, Be helpful/caring, Be kind to ourselves and others, accepting everyone’s beliefs and  be a active listener. Rangatiratanga (Leadership), Take on a challenge and don’t rub out mistakes, help others when they are stuck but don’t give them the answer and have positivity when talking to people. Whanaunatanga (Relationships), Work as team while doing your work, Do simple acts of kindness and open up doors for eachother. The last value is Tautio (Respect for our enviroment), Look after our space and clean up, pick up rubbish even if it isn’t yours. Thank you for reading my blog post! Does/did your school have values?

Writing

Good morning, on Tuesday and Wednesday this week my class did something based off of “The Invention Of Hugo Cabret” by Brian Selznick. In case you haven’t read the book it is like a few of the pages are pictures and then it continue with the story and there is a lot of detail in the pictures like there is heaps of shadings of some lines that you can’t even see. So on Tuesday my class did some setting of the story, they had to close their eyes and imagine a picture and then they had to describe what they pictured in their head. On Wednesday everyone had to introduce their first character but I had to do setting because I was sick on Tuesday.

Have you ever read “The Invention Of Hugo Cabret”?

Value Rocks

Good morning/ afternoon, this week my class has been working on something called “Value Rocks”. So we had to write down our schools four values, the values we had to write down and make it short for 5 year olds to read, we had to write for Manaakitanga, Rangatiratanga , Whanaunatanga and Tautio. After we showed Miss Lang what we wrote down we had to go outside and find a rock about the size of our palms, we had to show her the size of our rocks in case it was to big. Me and Bea did our writing and finding the rocks together, Me and Bea couldn’t find a lot of rocks that we thought was good so we took our time and went around the school, when we finally came back to class everyone had already started painting and took all of the painting shirts and we had to be very very careful not to get paint on our tops or skorts/pants. Bea painted her rocks sky blue, purple, light orange and one red and pink. I did my rocks colours midnight blue, midnight purple, rainbow and the inside of a volcano. I don’t really like the look of mine but I will like it eventually.

Manaakitanga means respect and doing nice stuff, Rangatiratanga means to be a leader and show leadership by taking on challenges and stuff like that, Whanaunatanga means realationships and it looks like your are including everyone and being nice to people you don’t like, Tautio is cleaning up and keeping our enviroment clean.

Have you ever thought of painting a rock and leaving it somewhere for someone to look at?

Weaving Art!

Hello, on the last week of school we did something called “Weaving Art”. On Wednesday the 17th of September, we had to sketch out a traditional Maori design, some people did Whale Tails and Twists . Me and Dakota decided that we would use the same colours but in reverse like she would do a blue background and her design green, and I did mine with a green background and blue design. Dakota did a Twist and I did a Whale Tail. On Thursday we started to colour in the designs we made with pastels, we had to get a light a dark and a medium shade to blend it in to make it look good. On the Friday the people who had finished the pastels got to start on the weaving. The people who started first had to get a ruler and Miss Lang gave them a box cutter to do the lines, after they cut the lines they put skewers in the cuts and then taped them so that they wouldn’t move.

This is every ones art on the wall.  Have you ever tried doing weaving art?

My snowball writing

Last week we started to do our snowball writing but I wasn’t there to do that so I started my snowball writing this week. It was very fun to write it. our snowball writing is what we did in the weekend/holidays. I think I did a really good story heres my story.

During the holidays I went to my dads in Whangārei. I went there for two weeks but my brother went there for only one week. My dad lived on a farm so on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday we went to feed milk to the calves and throw out hay to the cows. On Wednesday we had gone to feed milk to the calves and that took about one hour because there were a lot of calves so after we fed the calves we had to go up a hill, we went up the hill to feed the cows but they weren’t there so my dad had to call taxi guy (the person who helps out on the farm with his kids). Taxi guy had come but he couldn’t find the cows, so my dad took me down the hill and off the trailer he started looking around the hills but they were nowhere to be seen so they had to go to the paddocks near the house and the cows were in the paddock next to the house so my dad had to move them into paddock 33. Moving them into paddock 33 took around ten minutes so I was stuck on the bottom of the hill because my dad dropped me off, so I was just sitting on the grass until the owners of the farms dogs came over and kept me company whilst waiting for my dad. When my dad arrived he clipped on the trailer and made me throw off the hay, when I finished my dad let me ride with him on the bike, we had to do that 3 times that week. When we got back my dad made me popcorn and a milo because it started to rain and I was soaked, as I sat down my dads cat came and sat down with me. Dad put in a movie called “Woody The Wood Pecker goes to camp.” my dad loved that movie so much that we watched it again.    What’s your favourite writing piece you made?

Making World War ll / Modern planes

This week and next week our reading task is about Johnny Pohe and his great escape, for one of our tasks we have to make a plane for World War ll and Johnny Pohe the first  Māori pilote ever to fly. For this task I am working with my friend Sophie. For the supplies we need, Paper, scissors, glue/PVA glue, colouring pencils/pens, cardboard and tape.       The book is called “Johnny Pohe and the Great Escape by Philip Cleaver”. I think this task is going to be very fun, because we have two weeks to do this task and we can take our time and look up inspiration and get ideas on what to do. Johnny Pohe was a plane bomber and he got lucky for his first 22 mission and he survived a plane crash but then his luck ran out, he got captured and sent to a Germany camp.

Do you know any people that have fought in World War ll or in any war?’

STEM

Last week we did an activity called STEM. STEM is where you have 30 sheets of paper and you have to make a structure to hold a can of beans, then the next day you get to improve your structure with 30 new pieces of paper and you would get two bean cans instead of one. I was in two groups the first day someone in my group wasn’t here so we got put into different groups and then they were there the next day.

Reading: Dawn Service.

This week we read about Anzac day, the book was called “Dawn Service.” There were three tasks the first one was answering questions that we learn about in the book, the second one was to write the things her mother said and didn’t say and highlight three of our favourites on each side  and write why they are our favourites.

Do you celebrate Anzac day?

Peyton Seahorse Art

Today we got to chose between doing a shark or a seahorse, I chose a seahorse because it was my favourite. My favourite bit about doing this was that we got to draw and get to colour it in, art is one of my favourite subjects. I watched the video to draw the seahorse  first we had to get the outline second we had to go over it with a pen then add seaweed and bubbles then we coloured it in. This is my Seahorse art,

The Seahorses name is Sea.

Do you like Seahorses?
